Tense - जिससे कार्य के समय की जानकारी मिलती हैं , उसे Tense कहते हैं । Tense तीन प्रकार के होते हैं -
( I ) Present Tense (वर्तमान काल ) - वह tense जो वर्तमान समय का बोध कराता है , उसे Present Tense कहते हैं । सभी हिंदी वाक्यों के अंत में है , हूँ, हैं आदि शब्द आते हैं ।
( II ) Past Tense ( भूत काल ) - वह Tense जो भूतकालीन समय का बोध कराता है , उसे Past Tense कहते हैं । हिंदी वाक्यों के अंत में था , थी , थे आदि शब्द आते हैं ।
( III ) Future Tense (भविष्य काल ) - वह Tense जो भविष्य काल का बोध कराता है उसे Future Tense कहते हैं । इसमें वे सभी कार्य आते हैं जो भविष्य में संपादित होने वाले हैं । हिंदी वाक्यों के अंत में गा , गी , गे आदि शब्द आते हैं ।
नोट - तीनों ही Tenses के चार - चार भाग होते हैं ।
Tenses का अध्ययन करने से पूर्व हम वाक्य तथा वाक्य के प्रकारों का अध्ययन करते हैं -
Tenses की दृष्टि से वाक्य चार प्रकार के होते हैं -
1.Affirmative / Assertive / Simple Sentence
Structure - Subject + H.V. +M.V. + Object +Etc. .
2.Negative Sentence
Structure - Subject + H.V. + not + M.V. + Object +Etc. .
3.Interrogative Sentence
Note - Interrogative Sentence दो प्रकार के होते हैं -
(A) Helping Verb से प्रारंभ होने वाले वाक्य - ऐसे प्रश्न जिनका उत्तर Yes या No में हो ।
Structure - H.V. + Subject + M.V. + Object +Etc. ?
(B) Wh Word से प्रारंभ होने वाले वाक्य - ऐसे प्रश्न जिनका उत्तर Yes या No में नहीं हो ।
Structure - Wh Word + H.V. + Subject + M.V. + Object +Etc. ?
4.Interrogative Negative Sentence
Note - ये भी दो प्रकार के होते हैं -
(A) H.V. + Subject + not + M.V. + Object +Etc. ?
(B) Wh Word + H.V. + Subject + not + M.V. + Object +Etc. ?

Tenses का विस्तृत अध्ययन
Present Tense (वर्तमान काल )
1.Present Indefinite Tense
(i) हिंदी पहचान - सामान्यतः हिंदी वाक्यों के अंत में ता है , ती है , ते हैं , ता हूँ आदि शब्द आते हैं ।
(ii) Adverbials - Daily , Everyday , Usually , Often , Always , Sometimes , Generally etc.
(iii) Helping Verb - इस Tense में साधारण वाक्यों में H.V. का प्रयोग नहीं होता है । अन्य वाक्यों में एकवचन कर्ता के साथ Does तथा बहुवचन कर्ता के साथ Do का प्रयोग करते हैं ।

(iv) Main Verb - इस Tense में M.V. की Ist Form का प्रयोग करते हैं ।
Note - यदि वाक्य साधारण हो तथा कर्ता एकवचन हो तो M.V. की Ist Form के साथ s या es लगाते हैं ।
Simple Sentence Singular Subject
Note - जिन क्रियाओं के अंत में S , SH , X , O , CH , SS आदि अक्षर आये तो उसमें es जुड़ता है ।
विशिष्ट नियम
( 1 ) समाचार पत्रों के Title Present Indefinite Tense में लिखे जाते हैं ।
Ex- भारत ने श्री लंका को 161 रन से हराया ।
- India defeats Srilanka by 161 runs .
(2) किसी भी Match की Commentory (आँखों देखा हाल ) Present Indefinite Tense में की जाती है ।
Ex- विराट कोहली ने चौका लगाया ।
- Virat Kohli Hits a four .
(3) कहावतें तथा मुहावरे Present Indefinite Tense में होते हैं ।
Ex- अध्ययन व्यक्ति को पूर्ण बनता हैं ।
- Reading makes a man parfect.
(4) यदि किसी कथन में वैज्ञानिकता (Scientific Fact) हो तो उस कथन में Present Indefinite Tense होता है ।
Ex- हाइड्रोजन और ऑक्सीजन पानी बनाते हैं ।
- Hydrogen and Oxygen make water.
(5) यदि किसी वाक्य में सार्वभौमिक सच्चाई हो तो Present Indefinite Tense होता है ।
Ex- सूर्य पश्चिम में अस्त होता है ।
- The Sun sets in the west .
Affirmative Sentence -
- She speaks truth always .
- We play cricket daily.
- It rains daily.
Negative Sentence -
- Pawan does not go to school daily .
- We do not watch Hindi movies .
- This fan does not move slowly .
Interrogative Sentence -
( A ) Do / Does + Subject + M.V. Ist + Object + Etc. ?

2.Present Continuous Tense
(i) हिंदी पहचान - सामान्यतः हिंदी वाक्यों के अंत में रहा है , रही है , रहे हैं आदि शब्द आते हैं ।
(ii) Adverbials -Now , Now a days , At this + day / night / week / month /year / moment
(iii) Helping Verb - इस Tense में एकवचन कर्ताओं के साथ Is , बहुवचन कर्ताओं के साथ Are तथा I के साथ Am का प्रयोग करते हैं ।
(iv) Main Verb - इस Tense में M.V. की Ist Form के साथ ing प्रत्यय (Suffix) का प्रयोग करते हैं ।
Simple Sentence
Formula - Subject + Is/Am/Are + M.V. Ist + ing + Object + Etc. .
Ex-- The girls are fighting each other .
- The clouds are floating in the sky.
- The birds are chirping.
Negative Sentence
Formula - Subject + Is/Am/Are + Not + M.V. Ist + ing + Object + Etc. .
Ex-- I am not talking now .
- Children are not playing .
- I am not worshiping in the temple.
Interrogative Sentence
(A) Is/Am/Are + Subject + M.V. Ist + ing + Object + Etc. ?
(B) Wh Word + Is/Am/Are + Subject + M.V. Ist + ing + Object + Etc. ?
Ex-- Are you speaking the truth ?
- Where are they living now ?
- Why are you making a noise ?

3.Present Perfect Tense
(i) हिंदी पहचान - सामान्यतः हिंदी वाक्यों के अंत में चुका है , चुकी है , चुके हैं आदि शब्द आते हैं । अथवा हिंदी वाक्यों के अंत में आ है , ई है , ऐ हैं आदि ध्वनि आती है ।
(ii) Adverbials -Just , Just Now , Yet , Still , So Far , Recently , Presently.
(iii) Helping Verb - इस Tense में एकवचन कर्ताओं के साथ Has तथा बहुवचन कर्ताओं के साथ Have का प्रयोग करते हैं ।
(iv) Main Verb - इस Tense में M.V. की IIIrd Form का प्रयोग करते हैं ।
Simple Sentence
Formula - Subject + Has/Have + M.V. IIIrd + Object + Etc. .
Ex-- Ram has gone to home .
- We have eaten food .
- They have done their homework .
Negative Sentence
Formula - Subject + Has/Have + Not + M.V. IIIrd + Object + Etc. .
Ex-- My father has not sent me money .
- Some students have not registered their name .
- People have not helped .
Interrogative Sentence
(A) Has/Have + Subject + M.V. IIIrd + Object + Etc. ?
(B) Wh Word + Has/Have + Subject + M.V. IIIrd + Object + Etc. ?

4.Present Perfect Continuous Tense
(i) हिंदी पहचान - सामान्यतः हिंदी वाक्यों के अंत में ता रहा हूँ , ती रही हूँ , ते रहे हैं , ते रहे हो , ती रही हो , ता रहा हैं , ती रही हैं , से रहा है , से रही है , से रहे है आदि शब्द आते हैं ।
(ii) Adverbials -Since / For + Time
(iii) Helping Verb - इस Tense में एकवचन कर्ताओं के साथ Has Been तथा बहुवचन कर्ताओं के साथ Have Been का प्रयोग करते हैं ।
(iv) Main Verb - इस Tense में M.V. की Ist Form + ing का प्रयोग करते हैं ।
Note - निश्चित समय के लिए Since तथा अनिश्चित समय के लिए For का प्रयोग करते हैं ।
Simple Sentence
Formula - Subject + Has/Have + Been + M.V. Ist + ing + Object + Since/For + Time + Etc. .
Ex-- I have been laughing.
- We have been walking since morning.
- The boys have been making a noise for three hours.
Negative Sentence
Formula - Subject + Has/Have + Not + Been + M.V. Ist + ing + Object + Since/For + Time + Etc. .
Ex-- Sheela has not been weeping for two hours .
- Dharmendra has not been reading .
- Ramesh has not been living in Delhi Since 1990 .
Interrogative Sentence
(A) Has/Have + Subject + Been + M.V. Ist + ing + Object + Since/For + Time + Etc. ?

Past Tense (भूत काल )
1.Past Indefinite Tense
(i) हिंदी पहचान - सामान्यतः हिंदी वाक्यों के अंत में ता था , ती थी , ते थे आदि शब्दांश आते हैं । यदि ये नहीं आते हैं तो वाक्य के अंत में आ , ई , ऐ आदि की ध्वनि आती है ।
(ii) Adverbials - Yesterday , Ago , Once , Long Ago , Oneday , Last + Any Time
(iii) Helping Verb - इस Tense में सभी कर्ताओं के साथ Did का प्रयोग करते हैं ।
(iv) Main Verb - यदि वाक्य साधारण हो तो M.V. की IInd Form अन्यथा M.V. की Ist Form का प्रयोग करते हैं ।
विशिष्ट नियम
(1) ऐतिहासिक घटनाओं को व्यक्त करने के लिए Past Indefinite Tense का प्रयोग करते हैं ।
Ex- राम ने रावण को मारा ।
- Ram killed Ravan.
(2) भूतकालीन आदत को व्यक्त करने के लिए Past Indefinite Tense का प्रयोग करते हैं ।
Ex-हम पढने जाते थे ।
- We went to school to read .
Simple Sentence
Formula - Subject + M.V. IInd + Object + Etc. .
Note - साधारण वाक्यों में H.V. का प्रयोग नहीं करते हैं ।
Ex-- They went to market .
- We collected Money .

Ex-- We did not take tickets.
- He did not help me .

Note -यदि Sentence Who से प्रारंभ हो तो Present तथा Past Indefinite Sentence में H.V. का प्रयोग नहीं करते हैं ।

1.Past Perfect Tense
(i) हिंदी पहचान - सामान्यतः हिंदी वाक्यों के अंत में चुका था , चुकी थी , चुके थे अथवा आ था , ई थी , ऐ थे की ध्वनि आती है ।
(ii) Adverbials -यदि दो वाक्य After या Before से जुड़े हों तो पहले वाक्य में Past Perfect व दूसरे वाक्य में Past Indefinite का प्रयोग करते हैं ।
(iii) Helping Verb - इस Tense में सभी कर्ताओं के साथ Had का प्रयोग करते हैं ।
(iv) Main Verb - इस Tense में M.V. की IIIrd Form का प्रयोग करते हैं ।
Simple Sentence
Formula - Subject + Had + M.V. IIIrd + Object + Etc. .
Ex-- We had reserved tickets on time .
- The teachers had checked homework .
- I had ironed my clothes .
Negative Sentence

Formula - Subject + Had + Been + M.V. Ist + ing + Object + Since/For + Time + Etc. .
Ex-- We had been watching movie for two days last year .
- He had been living in Pakistan for two years .
- They had been working for five days .
Negative Sentence
Formula - Subject + Had + Not + Been + M.V. Ist + ing + Object + Since/For + Time + Etc. .
Ex-- The children had not been making a noise in this street for one hour.
- The prime minister had not been delivering speech for one hour.
- Priyanka had not been reading her book for two hours.
Interrogative Sentence
(A) Had + Subject + Been + M.V. Ist + ing + Object + Since/For + Time + Etc. .

Future Tense (भविष्य काल )
1.Future Indefinite Tense
(i) हिंदी पहचान - सामान्यतः हिंदी वाक्यों के अंत में गा , गी , गे आदि शब्द आते हैं ।
(ii) Adverbials - Tomorrow , Next + day/night/week/month/year/any time , in future Etc.
(iii) Helping Verb - इस Tense में I तथा We के साथ Shall तथा अन्य कर्ताओं के साथ Will का प्रयोग करते हैं ।
(iv) Main Verb - इस Tense में M.V. की Ist Form का प्रयोग करते हैं ।
Simple Sentence
Formula - Subject + Shall/Will + M.V. Ist + Object + Etc. .
Ex-- We shall go to the temple of Vaishno Devi .
- You will be the representative of this class .
- He will wait for me .
Negative Sentence
Formula - Subject + Shall/Will + Not + M.V. Ist + Object + Etc. .
Ex-- They will not play with the team .
- You will not live in this house .
- I shall not talk to you .

2.Future Continuous Tense
(i) हिंदी पहचान - सामान्यतः हिंदी वाक्यों के अंत में रहा होगा , रही होगी , रहे होंगे , रहा होऊंगा आदि शब्द आते हैं ।
(ii) Adverbials - Tomorrow at this + any time
(iii) Helping Verb - इस Tense में I तथा We के साथ Shall Be तथा अन्य कर्ताओं के साथ Will Be का प्रयोग करते हैं ।
(iv) Main Verb - इस Tense में M.V. की Ist Form + ing का प्रयोग करते हैं ।

Formula - Subject + Shall/Will + Be + M.V. Ist + ing + Object + Etc. .
Ex-- We shall be worshiping .
- The lion will be roaring in the forest .

(ii) Adverbials - By + any time
(iii) Helping Verb - इस Tense में I तथा We के साथ Shall Have तथा अन्य कर्ताओं के साथ Will Have का प्रयोग करते हैं ।
(iv) Main Verb - इस Tense में M.V. की IIIrd Form का प्रयोग करते हैं ।

Ex-- The sun will have set before evening.
- We shall have reached Agra by 10 o'clock.
- We shall have taken lunch before you come.
Negative Sentence
Formula - Subject + Shall /Will + Not + Have + M.V. IIIrd + Object + Etc. .
Ex-- The thief will not have run away before the police comes.
- Rahul will not have reached the college by 10 o'clock.

4.Future Perfect Continuous Tense
(i) हिंदी पहचान - सामान्यतः हिंदी वाक्यों के अंत में से रहा होगा , से रही होगी , से रहे होंगे आदि शब्द आते हैं ।
(ii) Adverbials - Since / For + time + Future fact
(iii) Helping Verb - इस Tense में I तथा We के साथ Shall Have Been तथा अन्य कर्ताओं के साथ Will Have Been का प्रयोग करते हैं ।
(iv) Main Verb - इस Tense में M.V. की Ist Form + ing का प्रयोग करते हैं ।
Simple Sentence
Formula - Subject + Shall/Will + Have + Been + M.V. Ist + ing + Object + Since/For + Time + Etc. .
Ex-- The stars will have been shining in the sky since 6 o'clock.
- Radha will have been singing a sweet song since 10 o'clock.
- Shyam will have been listening music for two hours.
Negative Sentence
Formula - Subject + Shall/Will + Not + Have Been + M.V. Ist + ing + Object + Since/For + Time + Etc. .
Ex-- He will not have been working in the factory for six months.
- The Baby will not have been weeping in the room since morning.
- He will not have been running his business since April.
